OK - I am still in the process of reviewing the Elgato Hybrid TV. I realize it seems like I am moving like molasses but I have been juggling several projects at work and can’t find the time to finalize the review. But, I did get a noteworthy email today from MonoPrice and they noted that they have the Mini Displayport Male and USB Male Audio to HDMI Female Converting Adapter in stock. Basically, the cable provides an easier audio connection as it unifies the audio connection into a single HDMI signal, essentially doing away with the need for a 3.5 mm to toslink (fiber optic) adapter. Kanex offers the same device but it is selling for $12 more than the MonoPrice unit.
One thing to note is that while they both provide full 1080p HD resolution the audio is limited to stereo output (2-channel analog signal). If you would like 5.1 Surround Sound (and all the HD Digital codecs -DTS Digital, Dolby Digital including DTS-HD and Dolby True HD), then you will need to pop for the new Kanex unit which retails for $70.
Update: I heard from the Kanex folks this morning and they stated: “The Kanex MiniDP adapter w/ Digital Audio is suppose to support DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD as well as DTS-MA.” Good news for you HD audiophiles!

Do you know if the Kanex will allow the HD Audio Streams (DTS-MA and Dolby TrueHD)?

Dave,
On the Kanex site, they claim their $70 unit will facilitate Dolby Digital including DTS-HD and Dolby True HD. There is no mention of DTS-MA but I am thinking it would support it as well but don’t quote me on that, ha.
Thanks for the comment and for following my site! Take care.

Dave,
It looks like it DOES support DTS-MA. Here is a response I received a few minutes ago from the Kanex guys:
“The Kanex MiniDP adapter w/ Digital Audio is suppose to support DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD as well as DTS-MA.”
Let me know if you decide to go this route and what the results are – Thanks.
