As noted by some commenters on my site, the upgrade to Snow Leopard on mac mini has affected the performance of the Plex media center software. Yesterday, the Plex developers released a new version which attempts to correct many of those issues and offers some of the following new features (pulled from the Plex site):
- Three new levels of dynamic range compression (in Preferences > System > Audio): Normal, Large, and Huge. These setting help boost volume levels when listening to downmixed 5.1 audio.
- Captions for iPhoto photos, and EXIF comment tag also used for captions
- Toggle full screen option on dock menu
- Support for one-click install of plug-ins. You can now easily install plug-ins off the web without having to copy files all over the place
And possibly the biggest addition is the ability to use the Apple remote once again for control of the Plex system. Integrating code from IOSPIRIT’s Felix Schwarz (the developers of the Remote Buddy application) and his Candelair driver, the Apple Remote reportedly now works fine with Snow Leopard and Plex. I’d be interested in hearing reports from anybody who has tested this feature or has comments on the latest Plex release.
